The work "I am free like that" examines the performative dimension of language by breaking down a historical expression into its fundamental components. The phrase “I am free like that,” commonly used in the 17th and 18th centuries as a polite introductory formula, marks a paradoxical relationship: it asserts autonomy while simultaneously inscribing itself within a system of normative social conventions.

I am free like that? – I am free like that. – I am free like that!
